Purpose:
to compare the results of vision, refraction, contrast sensitivity, and aberrations between PRK-MMC and Phakic IOL in patients with myopia more than 8 diopter (D).
Methods:
This non-randomized clinical trial was performed on 23 eyes under treatment with Artiflex (Group A) and 23 eyes under treatment with PRK-MMC (Group B).
Results:
Eighteen months after the surgery, the uncorrected visual acuity was 0.02±0.06 and 0.04±0.07 (P=0.639) and the best corrected visual acuity was 0.004±0.02 and 0.03±0.07 (P=0.035) in group A and B, respectively. The manifest refraction spherical equivalent was -0.16±0.21 and -0.09±0.20D in group A and B, respectively (P=0.190). Decreased mesopic CS was different between the two groups in spatial frequency 3(P=0.024) and 6(P=0.019). The two groups showed significant difference in total coma (P<0.001), spherical aberration (P<0.001), and RMS HOAT was (P<0.001).
Conclusion:
According to the 18-month results, Artiflex phakic IOL Implementation was better than PRK-MMC in the correction of high myopia. Therefore, PRK-MMC can be used with acceptable results when the anterior chamber depth is a limiting factor in the implementation of phakic IOLs.
