Purpose:

To examine the interaction of genotypic variation of single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the complement factor H (CFH) locus with clinical characteristic of age related macular degeneration (AMD) in a population from the northeastern of Iran
|

Methods:

52 patients with dry AMD (with geographic atrophy) and 73 sex,age,ethnic matched control subjects from the interested population were studied. A polymorphism in CFH (Y402H) was genotyped using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP)
|

Results:
|
In comparison of AMD patients with control subjects, there was a significant association between group of patients and controls
|
|
Conclusion:
|
This study suggests that TT genotype could be a great risk factor for initiating and developing geographic atrophy in AMD patients in our cohorts
|
