Purpose:
|
To evaluate the effect of mechanical implantation of myoring in keratoconus patients with high myopia.
|
|
Methods:
|
This study comprised 32 eyes of 32 keratoconus patients (14 male , 18 female) with high myopia which had MyoRing (Dioptex GmbH) implantation using mechanical dissection with PocketMaker microkeratome and completed 3 months of follow-up. Preoperative and postoperative visual acuity,keratometry, aberrometry, and refraction were the main outcome measures of the study.

Results:
|
The mean age was 30 ± 7 years (range 20- 44 years) .The mean preoperative UCVA improved from 1.14 ± 0.32 logMAR to 0.35 ± 0.24 logMAR (P˂0.001) postoperatively , the mean BCVA improved from 0.47 ± 0.20 logMAR to 0.22 ± 0.15 logMAR (P˂0.001), the mean K reading decreased by 3.55 D , from 51.6 ± 3.26 SD to 47.51 ± 3.57 (P˂0.001), the mean astigmatism decreased by 2.6 D from -4.60 ± 1.86 to -2.00 ± 1.51(P˂0.001) and the mean Myopia decreased from -8.18 ± 2.58 SD to -0.32 ± 2.15 SD (P˂0.001) .

Conclusion:
|
The outcomes of the study show that myoring is quite effective method in the correction of myopia in keratoconus patients with high myopia.
