Purpose:
To evaluate correlation of intraoperative static and dynamic cyclotorsions with preoperative refractive astigmatism.
Methods:
The measurements of static and dynamic cyclotorsions were registered in 138 eyes of 77 patients who underwent excimer laser system by Technolas 217P. Wavefront measurements were performed in sitting position using Hartmann Shack aberrometer (Bausch & Lomb) and compared with the amount of cyclotorsion in supine position using the iris registration system of Zyoptix 217P excimer laser resulted static cyclotorsion.
Results:
The mean absolute static cyclotorsions was 3.37?2.38SD, (range from 0.00 to 11.30 degrees) and the mean absolute dynamic cyclotorsion was 2.54? 2.50(SD) degrees (range 0.00 to 13.60). There was a significant relationship between dynamic cyclotorsions and static cyclotorsions (p-value<0.001 and Pearson correlation= 0.704). There was a strong association between preoperative refractive astigmatism and range of dynamic cyclotorsions. Total pulses and ablation depth had significant correlations with cyclotorsional movements.
Conclusion:
There was a significant correlation between range of dynamic cyclotorsions and amount of preoperative refractive astigmatism. There was also a significant relationship between dynamic cyclotorsions and static cyclotorsions, total pulses and ablation depth. Iris Registration especially dynamic eye tracking is recommended for refractive surgery candidates with significant preoperative refractive astigmatism.
