Purpose:
|
Dry eye is a common condition and can occur secondary to cataract surgery. This study was undertaken to evaluate the development of dry eye symptoms after cataract extraction in women.
|
Methods:
|
In this case-control study 40 female with the mean age of 71 year were enrolled. Patients underwent a clinical examination preoperatively and one month after surgery on 2 eyes. At each visit a dry eye symptoms questionnaire were filled out . The questionnaire data of 2 eyes were analyzed.

Results:
|
A significant proportion of patients reported experiencing at least some dry eye symptoms after cataract surgery on the operated eyes. The most common symptoms were: need to use artificial tear(100%) FB sensation (88%) and Burning (79%) . Mean TBUT decreased after surgery but difference is not statistically significant.

Conclusion:
|
The development of dry eye symptoms after cataract surgery are significant and these are important aspects of the success of cataract surgery.
