Purpose:
|
Investigation and comparison of proton and carbon beam's efficiency in choroidal tumors have been presented.
|
Methods:
|
In this research, we have designed a phantom of human eye with choroidal tumor for Monte Carlo simulation of tumors treatment by using GEANT4 Monte Carlo toolkit.
|
Results:
|
Energy deposition and Relative Biological Effectiveness (RBE) due to the primary and secondary particles for 47.8 MeV proton and 1060 MeV carbon ions with same ranges in the center of tumor have been calculated. So, the flux curves of the secondary particles have been calculated and compared for the primary beams. The RBE variation as function of LET (Linear Transfer Energy) have been presented and compared for the proton and carbon beams.

Conclusion:
|
The high sharpness of RBE and carbon beam's Bragg peak are the advantage of this beam in hadrontherapy with disadvantages of high intensity of secondary particles production. But, less production of secondary particles for proton beam is an advantage of this beam for treatment of this type of cancer.
