Purpose:
to suggest a causative relationship between choroidal osteoma and langerhans cell
histiocytosis
Methods:
In a case of bilateral choroidal osteoma , past medical history revealed that he had suffered
from langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) too. Here we have tried to make a plausible association between
these two disorders.A 24 year old man who complaining of gradually decreasing visual acuity in both eyes was
presented. He had a history of lymphadenopathy and respioratory symptoms and pathology proven
diagnosis of langerhans cell histiocyotsis. Ophthalmic clinical and imaging studies revealed bilateral
choroidal osteoma
Results:
local cytokines secreted by choroidal infiltrated histiocytes, could trigger the formation of
choroidal osteoma.
Conclusion:
there is a possible causative relationship between langerhans cell and choroidal osteoma
