Purpose:
To study the effects of Advanced Control Eye (ACE) in improved visual function.
Methods:
25 subjects (16 female and 9 male) between the ages of 18-40 were included in the study using a non-random sampling method. Subjects had -1, -7 diopters of refractive error myopia and -1 , -4 diopters of astigmatism with a difference of ± 0.25 in both eyes and were treated with PRK +mmc using the Technolas 217z Excimer Laser System.VA with and without correction , contrast sensitivity & corneal imaging was performed before and 3 months after surgery. One eye was randomly corrected with ACE.
Results:
Data collected were evaluated using SPSS software and a paired sample t-test. HOA improvement by ACE was statistically different and greater than contralateral eye. Irregular astigmatism in 3 and 5mm zone in both Orbscans was statistically different and less than contralateral eye with use of ACE. A change in contrast in two eyes was not statistically significant, but the mean was greater than with ACE. BCVA was 10/10 in all cases, and corneal opacity was not observed.
Conclusion:
The use of ACE in refractive error correction to improve visual outcomes.
