Purpose:
|
to compare the results and complications of ptosis corrective surgery in children and adult groups in Yazd Shahid Sadoughi Hospital.

Methods:
|
we retrospectively reviewed the profile of 212 patients underwent corrective surgery for ptosis between 2000 and 2010 in Shahid Sadoughi hospital. Demographic data, the involved eye (right or left), familial history (FH), ptosis type, surgical technique, results and complications of surgery were documented. Data analyzed by SPSS-18 based on aims.

Results:

Overall 212 patients were studied in two age groups:<15 years including 47.2% female, 52.8% male and >15 years:53.8% female, 46.2% male. Positive FH and congenital ptosis is more frequent in <15 years statistically. Levator resection(LR) was done in 67% of both groups and sling fontalis(SF), 28.3% and 22.6% in groups respectively. Normal eyelid position, under and over correction were reported 76.5%, 2.8%, 20.7% respectively in first group and 56.6%, 11.3%, 32.1% in second. The success rate of SF was more than LR statistically in both groups but no about complications between them.

Conclusion:

According to this study the success rate of SF was more than LR in all patients and ptosis corrective surgery results was better in <15 years group.
