Purpose:
Comparison of Intravenous Lidocaine versus Hyoscine on Prevention of Oculocardiac Reflex in Strabismus Surgery.
Methods:
Oculocardiac reflex is a frequent side effect of strabismus surgery. The goal of this study is comparison of preventive effect of intravenous lidocaine and hyoscine on oculocardiac reflex (OCR).
Results:
152 muscles were hooked during strabismus surgery. OCR was observed in 54 hooked muscles (35.5%). Reflex was observed in hyoscine (30.2%), lidocaine (29.2%) and control (47.9%) groups (p=0.12). The most stretched muscle which cause OCR were lateral rectus (50.6%) and medial rectus (38.8%) muscles. OCR was greater in patients with age between 5- 10 years (56.4%).
Conclusion:
Intravenous lidocaine as much as N-buthylbromide hyoscine could reduce OCR but it is not meaningful than control group. OCR was seen greater in young patients (5-10 years old). Some patients (especially chidren) need intervention to restore normal condition.
