Purpose:
|
Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is a bilateral, chronic, external ocular inflammatory disorder, mainly affecting patients in their first or second decade. This study was designed to comparison of Topical Tacrolimus and Interferon Alpha 2b in the Treatment of Vernal Keratonojunctivitis.

Methods:

In this clinical trial, 80 eyes of 40 patients with VKC that Referred to Al Zahra hospital in 1392, were evaluated. Sampling was performed a simple randomized. Patients divided in the tacrolimus 0.005% treatment groups, and interferon alpha-2b (one million units /cc). The patient data were collected. Chi-Squre and T-test was used.

Results:

The mean age was 11.1±5.2 years. 31 (77.5%) males and 9 (22.5%) were female. The mean duration of disease was 3.4±2.9 years (P>0.05) in this study, all patients had tacrolimus response to treatment, However, alpha-interferon therapy in a patient failed. (P>0.05), 3 patients (15%) in the interferon alfa group and 1 patient (5%) in the tacrolimus group were taking medications with redness and itching. (P=0.302) the efficacy of tacrolimus and interferon-alpha were evaluate, sign and symptom of patients after treatment than before treatment significantly reduced. (P>0.0001)

Conclusion:
|
The results showed that tacrolimus 0.005%, and interferon-alpha 2b are effective in the treatment of the patients with VKC.
