Purpose:
To introduce a patient diagnosed with Infectious Crystalline Keratopathy(ICK) following corneal cross-linking for keratoconus treated with intrastromal vancomycin infiltration.
Methods:
Corneal superficial keratectomy was performed.Smear and culture revealed staphylococcus aureus as the responsible pathogen.Topical fortified vancomycin drops failed to show significant response.intracorneal vancomycin was injected to the affected area.
Results:
The response to intrastromal infiltration of vancomycin was dramatic. The lesion healed with minimal scarring.
Conclusion:
ICK can occur after corneal cross-linking in an otherwise healthy cornea. this is first for the method, in which the intrastromal vancomycin was administered to treat staphylococcal crystalline keratopathy after corneal cross-linking.
