Purpose:

To indentify pre and post operative risk factors that influence the success of pterygium surgery
|
Methods:
|
In this prospective study 25 patients with recurrent pterygia treated from 2008_2013 looking for following factors: age, gender, outdoor work, time of exposure to the sun, use of UV light protection, classification of pterygium, surgical technique and complication and post operative symptoms. An ophthalmological examination were done before surgery , 2,10 days and 1,6,12 month after surgery. Recurrence was defined as any growth of conjunctive into the cornea

Results:

A total number of 25 patients with recurrence after surgery and at least 1 year follow-up were enrolled. 22 patients were men and the mean age of patients was 41.50 years,20 patients were born and lived in rural regions of Hamedan and 18 patients were farmer. The hours of sun exposure and size of were significantly related to recurrence.

Conclusion:
|
Male gender, high sun light exposure and size of pterygium showed strong correlation with recurrence.
