Purpose:
To report the results of intraorbital injection of hyaluronic acid gel for treatment of enophthalmos in visually loss eyes
Methods:
Ten patients with enophthalmos and blind eyes underwent intraorbital injection of Hyaluronic acid gel. After 12 months follow-up, its effect on exophthalmometry, ptosis, tarsal plate show, and deep superior sulcus deformity and patients satisfaction were evaluated.
Results:
Range of enophthalmos was 1.5-4 mm (mean: 2.85mm) before the injection which reduced to mean 1.6 mm after injection. The mean volume of hyaluronic acid gel injection was 1.15 ml. Patients were satisfied with results in 12 months. There was significant improvement in patient’s complaints such as ptosis and superior sulcus deformity.
Conclusion:
Intraorbital injection of hyaluronic acid gel is a safe and non-invasive method especially for patients with no vision in the affected eye. Because there would be no risk for visual loss, this method can replace second invasive surgery for correction of enophthalmos in such patients.
