Purpose:
To introduce a cost-effective and affordable and rapid treatment for Irvine –Gass Syndrome.
Methods:
In an interventional case series, we have included patients with Irvine-Gass Syndrome, cystoids macular edema(CME) after uncomplicated phacoemulsification. Patients with complicated surgery, systemic diseases like diabetes mellitus, age related macular degeneration and other ocular pathologies were excluded. All patients were managed with a combination of topical dorzolamide, betamethasone and ketorolac three times a day for three weeks. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) by logMAR scale and central macular thickness (CMT) measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT, Heidelberg)were obtained before and three weeks after the initiation of the treatment.
Results:
42 eyes of 42 patients (female= 20 patients) were included in the study (mean age of 58.8±5.9 years). Interval between operation and treatment was 6.6±1.1weeks. BCVA was improved significantly from 0.44±0.14 to 0.04±0.04 (p-value < 0.001). Mean CMT was decreased significantly from 374.3 ± 44.2 to 260.5 ± 6.4 (p-value < 0.001).
Conclusion:
Combination of topical Dorzolamide, Ketorolac and Betamethasone is a cost-effective in rapid management of Irvine-Gass Syndrome and as an affordable and tolerable treatment for the patients.
