Purpose:
To report a patient with acute altitudinal visual field defect due to anterior communicating artery aneurysm
Methods:
A 52-year-old male presented with subacute visual field loss associated with vague painful ocular movement in the right eye since one week before.
Results:
Baseline ophthalmic examinations were normal except for positive relative afferent pupillary defect of the right eye. Medical history was unremarkable except for hypertension. The abnormal paraclinical finding were inferior altitudinal visual field defect in automated perimetry , decreased amplitude of N75-P100 wave in visual evoked potential and anterior communicating artery aneurysm in brain imaging.
Conclusion:
Anterior communicating artery aneurysm can cause unusual acute visual field defect because of compression.
