Purpose:
To evaluae bilateral medial rectus recession results in type1 Duane syndrome
Methods:
Patients with type1 Duane syndrome and deviation in primary position or face turn, were candidate for bilateral medial rectus recession in Matini hospital and Javadol-A'aemme clinic by one surgeon. Deviometry and face turn were compared before operation and 6 months thereafter
Results:
16 patients (9 Females, 7 Males) with mean age 5.75 years (2 to 13 years) were included. Before operation, mean esodeviation was 16(10-25) Prism Diopters (PD) and face turn was 0 to 20 degrees that converted to 5(0-15) PD esodeviation and 0-10 degrees respectively which was statistically significant. Mean deviation improvement was 11 PD.
7 patients had complete resolution of face turn and 7 had partially improvement. Patents satisfaction about deviation or face turn improvement was 94%, abduction improvement was 13% and retraction improvement was 25%
Conclusion:
Bilateral recession of medial rectus muscle had resulted in improvement of deviation, face turn and globe retraction in patients with type 1 Duane syndrome
