Purpose:
To quantitatively analyze the anterior chamber parameters in patients with pupillary block and plateau iris configuration (PIC) using anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT)
Methods:
This study of non-glaucomatous subjects (40-80 years) included 57 American Caucasian, 79 American Chinese, and 76 mainland Chinese. Subjects were divided into 2 groups of narrow angles (91eyes) and open angles (121 eyes) based on gonioscopy. Narrow angles were further divided into pupillary block (60 eyes) and PIC (31eyes) based on ultrasound biomicroscopy findings. AS-OCT parameters obtained for each subjects and analyzed using ZAAP software and compared among open angles, pupillary block and PIC groups
Results:
There was no significant difference in angle parameters (AOD500, AOD 750, TISA 500, TISA 750), anterior segment parameters (ACD, ACA), IT2000, I-Curve and lens vault between pupil block and PIC groups. PIC eyes had borderline greater IT750 than the pupillary block group
Conclusion:
Open angles have wider angles, larger anterior segments and less lens vault than pupil block and PIC eyes. AS-OCT parameters are not significantly different between pupil block and PIC eyes. Thus AS-OCT parameters may not be useful for differentiating eyes with PIC and pupillary block.
