Purpose:
To evaluate refractive and biometric outcomes of intravitreal Bevacizumab injection versus laser therapy in retinopathy of prematurity (ROP)
Methods:
In a prospective nonrandomized interventional comparative study, all consecutive infants who received a single intravitreal Bevacizumab (IVB) injection and all of those who undergone diode laser therapy for ROP were involved.
Results:
The IVB group included 17 children (28 eyes) and the laser Therapy group included 17 children (34 eyes). Spherical equivalent (SE) of IVB group significantly moved toward emmetropisation (mean SE change= 2.3±4.4 Diopters, P = .01). At Final exam IVB group had significant larger size than laser therapy group Axial ¬ = 20.0 ± 1.1 VS 19.4 ± 1.0 mm (p=.037), while their lens thickness significantly decreased (Lens thickness = 3.7 ± 0.2VS 3.99 ± 0.2 mm (p=.002)).
Conclusion:
At corrected age 9month, patient treated with diode laser showed myopic regression in comparison to IVB group; however it was not statistically significant, which is in differ to previous studies that showed much more pronounced myopia status in laser therapy groups. The amount of myopization induced by IVB as compared to the laser therapy has remained unclear.
