Purpose:
|
To evaluate the results of this limited technique for atrophic pterygium removal during cataract surgery. The goal of this procedure is to create a more cosmetically acceptable ocular surface.

Methods:
|
In this cross-sectional study 220 patients with atrophic pterygium and senile cataract candidate to phacoemulsification were enrolled .At the end of cataract surgery head of pterygium was removed from the cornea ,exposed tenon if present was excised and remaining of pterygium left intact. Peri and post operative complication, recurrence rate and patient satisfaction were evaluated

Results:

A total of 220 patients with at least 1 year follow-up after surgery were enrolled. Of the 220 patients 155 were male. Mean age of the patients was 63.6 year. Complication were seen in 45 patients including pain ,discomfort, hyperemic conjunctiva and fibro vascular tissue invading to cornea respectively .High patient satisfaction was reported.

Conclusion:
|
Cosmetic conjunctivoplasty during phacoemulsification for atrophic pterygium has a good healing because of small incision, low complication rate and high patient satisfaction.
