Purpose:
|
To evaluate efficiency of topical tranexamic acid compared with oral prednisolone in prophlaxis of rebleeding after traumatic hyphema in pediatric age group.
|
|
Methods:
|
This was an clinical trial study with equal randomization. Twenty patients aged 10 or younger were involved in our study. All of them had new traumatic hyphema who never got any medication before. Patients were randomized in 1 of 2 treatments group :
group1 received 1mg/kg oral prednisolone plus topical tranexamic acid10%(TEA) every 6 hours for 5 days ,
group 2 received topical tranexamic acid10%(TEA) every 6 hours for 5 days without oral prednisolone.

Results:
|
There were no significant differences between two groups in time to resolution of hyphema, rebleeding rate, IOP rise and side effects.
|
|
Conclusion:
|
It seems that topical TEA ,could be used instead of oral prednisolone in pediatric traumatic hyphema.
