A 38-year-old woman was referred to the cornea clinic of farabi eye center due to a 3-month complaint of burning , foreign body sensation , red eye and purulent discharges of both eyes, specifically right eye. The patient had been treated frequently with topical drugs, but she had not had any improvement in symptoms. Conjunctival injection was seen in both eyes, which was more severe in the right eye, and it was accompanied by superior and nasal palpebral conjunctival fibrosis and follicular reaction in the inferior right eyelid and yellowish globules in the inferior tarsal conjunctiva of the right eye.
Conjunctival scraping was performed and Giemsa staining revealed intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies suggestive of chlamydia infection in the conjunctival epithelium. We also prepared the samples with Immunohistochemistry study (IHC ), and it was evident for chlamydia infection too.
Additionally, In Giemsa staining we could detect something of value, and it was some toxoplasma gondii cysts among epithelial cells infected with chlamydia.
she was diagnosed with concomitant chlamydia and toxoplasma conjunctivitis and treated properly with oral doxycycline and Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim (co-trimoxazole ) antibiotics.

Conclusion:
|
This is the first report of a concomitant chlamydia and toxoplasma conjunctivitis.
