Purpose:
To compare the outcomes of LASIK with and without iris registration (IR).
Methods:
In this randomized paired-eye controlled study 59 patients (118 eyes) underwent LASIK using the Femto LDV femtosecond laser (160 µm) and the MEL80. For each patient, one eye was treated with an IR software profile and the other eye was treated without IR software profile, assigned at random. Main outcomes include Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA),contrast sensitivity and Higher order aberrations (HOAs)
Results:
At 12 months, the mean UDVA was 0.12±0.35 logMAR in eyes with IR and 0.06±0.26 logMAR , in eyes without IR (P =0.9) . 61% of eyes with IR and 71.18% of eyes without IR achieved a UDVA of 20/20 or better (P=0.31); 98.3% of eyes with IR and 94.9% eyes without IR were within+/-0.50 diopter (P =0.71). No patient lost any line of CDVA in either group. There was no statistically significant difference between groups in contrast sensitivity and changes in HOAs.
Conclusion:
Femtolasik with and without iris registration provide similar results in myopic and myopic astigmatism patients.
