Purpose:
To evaluate the outcomes of half-dose photodynamic therapy (PDT) in patients with chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC).
Methods:
A chart review of all patients with chronic CSC who received half-dose verteporfin PDT (3 mg/m2) was performed. The main outcome measures were complete resolution of subretinal fluid and best corrected visual acuity (BCVA).
Results:
53 eyes of 51 patients were studied. 3 months after PDT, subretinal fluid absorbed completely in 51 eyes (96.2%). In 2 eyes, subretinal fluid decreased at 3-month visit, however, one year after PDT, an increase in subretinal fluid was detected in OCT examination. Subretinal fluid absorbed completely after additional PDT. One patient with recurrence of subretinal fluid after complete absorption rejected additional treatment.Beseline central subfield thickness was 409±120.1 µ and 248.5±57.9 µ before and after PDT, respectively (P<0.001). BCVA was 0.35±0.28 LogMAR and 0.1±0.17 LogMAR before and after PDT, respectively (P<0.001). An increase in BCVA of ?2 lines occurred in 20 eyes (37.7%).
Conclusion:
Half-dose PDT is effective in the treatment of patients with chronic CSC.
