Purpose:
To compare femtosecond LASIK (FH Lasik) with surface Ablation (SA) for correction of hyperopia and hyperopic astigmatism
Methods:
In This prospective comparative ,randomized study patients with hyperopia and compound hyperopic astigmatism, were included. After randomization in 2 groups they underwent FH-Lasik or SA with Technolas 217P (Bausch &Lomb) and the data were corrected and analysis performand with at least 8 mo of follow up UCVA (BSCVA), subjective refraction,HOAs values of coma, trefoil, spherical aberration, 2nd astigmatism, total higher-order aberrations were measured using the zywave II aberrometer.
Results:
After 6 months, mean values for BDVA were 0.06 ±0.13 and
0.16±(logMAR) 0.14in the SA and FH LASIK groups, respectively ( P=0.022).
UDVA of 20/25 or better was achieved in 25% of eyes undergoing SA and 11.1% of FH LASIK eyes
No Significant differences were found between treatment groups in HOA or CDVA (P=0.835) after 6months.
No eye in either group lost more than 4 lines of best spectacle-corrected visual acuity
Conclusion:
According to current study, safety and efficacy of SA and FH LASIK are comparable . Under well-controlled surgical conditions, SA and FH- LASIK refractive surgeries for hyperopia and hyperopic astigmatisem achieve similar results in visual acuity, concidering induction of HOAs, and possible complications
