Purpose:
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of high power addition on improvement of near vision in visual impairment patients.
Methods:
In this cross- sectional study (2013), 114 files of the patients were evaluated. The mild Low vision was defined as best-corrected visual acuity in the better eye after the best possible correction between 20/70 to 20/200. In this study, required information included: age, gender, cause of vision impairment, and power of addition. SPSS 17 was used to analyze the data.
Results:
The sample comprised 114 subjects aged between 5 and 97 years. Mild low vision was present in 64.9% of patients; legal blindness and partial blindness were present in 26.3% and 8.8% respectively. The main causes of visual impairment were age-related macular degeneration (25.4%), Diabetic retinopathy (14%), Retinitis pimentos (10.50%) and stargarts disease (9.6%) respectively. For 45 % of patients had been prescribed high power addition .The power of addition was between 1.50 to 10.00 Diopter.
Conclusion:
The results show that in the most common cause of visual impairment, the microscope was suitable to improve near vision. Therefore recommended in all visual impairment patients the effect of microscope on near vision will be reviewed.
