Purpose:
To prospectively evaluate tear film stability and optical aberrations in eyes wearing Lotraflicon B contact lenses.
Methods:
we assessed wavefront aberrations by an objective aberrometer and tear film stability by the Javal-Schiotz keratometer in 86 normal eyes before and 6 hours after wearing contact lenses. HOA-RMS (High Order Aberrations Root Mean Square), LOA-RMS (Low Order Aberrations RMS), twelve individual Zernike polynomials and Tear Deformation Time (TDT) values measured in naked eyes were compared statistically with those obtained from contact lens inserted eyes.
Results:
Statistically significant increment was revealed in HOA-RMS values 6 hours after contact lens insertion (P<0.05). The Pre-corneal TDT data were significantly higher than the pre-lens TDT values (P<0001). The RMS-LOA values of the CL inserted situation were higher than the naked eye data, but the difference was not statistically significant. None of individual Zernike polynomials vary significantly after the CL insertion.
Conclusion:
Our findings indicated that the Airoptix Aqua contact lens added more HOAs into the eye’s optical system while it didn’t vary LOAs significantly. The tear film was less stable on the lens surface than the corneal surface. It seems that altering dynamic properties of the tear film was a more important factor influencing optical quality of the ocular image.
