Purpose:
To report the 1- year visual and refractive outcomes after full-ring intracorneal implantation (MyoRing) to correct moderate and severe keratoconus and comparison the outcomes between 3 and 12 months after surgery.
Methods:
This retrospective study included 54 eyes of 50 patients (27 male and 23 female) with moderate and severe keratoconus. The MyoRing (Dioptex GmbH) was implanted by the creation of a pocket within the corneal stroma with the PocketMaker microkeratome. All cases completed one year follow-up. Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best spectacle-corrected visual acuity (BSCVA), manifest refraction, spherical equivalent (SE), keratometry readings were clinically and statistically evaluated.
Results:
The mean UCVA (in decimal value) improved significantly from 0.06 ± 0.24 to 0.63 ± 0.09 and the mean BSCVA from 0.32 ± 0.22 to 0.8 ± 0.06 respectively (p<0.001). The spherical equivalent and the mean keratometric value decreased significantly by 6 diopters (p<0.001). There was no significant difference in visual and refractive outcomes between 3 months and 1 year postoperatively.
Conclusion:
Following MyoRing implantation in keratoconic eyes the mean SE, UCVA and BSCVA remained stable 3 months after surgery. Management of moderate and severe keratoconus using MyoRring implantation is safe and effective procedure.
