Purpose:
To evaluate the efficacy, predictability and safety of Transepithelial Photorefractive Keratectomy (TransPRK) using SCHWIND AMARIS 500 laser in correction of astigmatism.
Methods:
In this prospective study 95 eyes with astigmatism were enrolled and Followed-up until 12 months.
Results:
Preoperative mean UDVA logMAR of 0.68 ± 0.41 improved to -0.08±0.09 (P<0.0005). 91.5% eyes reached UDVA of 20/20 or better. The mean SE of eyes was reduced greatly from -3.66±1.54 to -0.02±0.17D (P<0.0005). Mean reduction in astigmatism was 91% (1.39 to 0.12D). 98.9% and 100% of eyes were within ±0.5 D and ±1 of target refraction, respectively. These percentages were 100% for cylindrical refraction. No eye lost more than 1 line of preoperative CDVA and 96.9% of eyes had preserved it or gained 1 line or more.
Conclusion:
TransPRK could be an effective, predictable and safe method for treatment of astigmatism. This result could be attributable to using one-step aspheric ablation profile and modified nomogram in this study.
