Purpose:
|
we wanted to compare Azithromycin Drop 1% with Doxycycline Capsule 100 mg on the treatment of post blepharitis.

Methods:
|
: 100 eyes with moderate posterior blepharitis, randomizly divided to 2 therapeutic groups; the first group, got eyelid massage with Azithromycin drop 1%(prepared by Sina Daru company) 2 drops BD for 2 days and then 1 drop daily for 12 days, The second group got Doxycycline Capsule 100 mg BD for 4 weeks in adition to eye lid massage then patinets’ subjective symptoms and the signs at slit lamp examination were compared together.

Results:
|
: there were no significant diffrence between schirmer test result and improvement of subjective symptoms , foreing body sensation and meibomian glands plugging was well comparabl in these 2 groups. Azithromycin drop reduced eye rdeness more than Doxycycline . Doxycycline capsule had more positive effect in reduction of corneal and conjunctival staining.

Conclusion:

: in the treatment of posterior blepharitis Azithromycine 1% drop, with its easy route of usage , is well comparable with Doxycycline 100mg capsule with a lower profile of adverse effects.
