Purpose:
Poor vision is related to academic and behavioral problems among children .A common vision problem in children is amblyopia, that is a decrease in the child’s vision that can happen even when there is no problem with the structure of the eye. The decrease in vision results when one or both eyes send a blurry image to the brain. There is little information about the association between amblyopia and ADHD symptoms .The aim of our study was evaluation ADHD symptoms in children with amblyopia.
Methods:
In the present study 23 children with amblyopia and 43 normal children without eye problem that matched for age, sex and parental education were enrolled. Their parents completed Persian version CSI-4,that assesses ADHD symptoms in children.
Results:
Mean age in normal and amblyopic children were 6.16 (SD=2.23) and 5..02( SD=1.27) respectively. Statistically significant differences between the two groups were found on inattention ( p<0.01 ,df=64 ,t=9.15) and hyperactivity- impulsivity ( p<0.01 ,df=64 ,t=9.15 ) scales.
Conclusion:
Children with amblyopia had more inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity symptoms than normal children.
