Purpose:
: Vision is important in development because it allows children to interact with their environment. Eye problems can affect development. Not only can poor vision affect learning and behavior, but some eye conditions can affect a child’s physical and neurological development as well. There is limited information about the association between ADHD symptoms and astigmatism. The aim of this study was evaluation ADHD symptoms in children with astigmatism.
Methods:
In the present study 14 children with astigmatism and 43 normal children without eye problem that matched for age, sex and parental education were enrolled. Their parents completed Persian version CSI-4,that assesses ADHD symptoms in children.
Results:
Mean age in normal and epileptic children were 6.16 (SD=2.23) and 5..29 ( SD=1.81) respectively. Statistically significant differences between the two groups were found on inattention ( p<0.01 ,df=55 ,t=7.54) and hyperactivity- impulsivity ( p<0.01 ,df=55 ,t=7.92 ) scales.
Conclusion:
Children with astigmatism had more inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity symptoms than normal children.
