Purpose:
Diabetes is a disease with a high prevalence which the damage to the vascular system is the essential complications of it. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of retinopathy in Diabetes Center of Hamedan and to determine the relationship between microalbuminuria and retinopathy in diabetic patients.
Methods:
This study was a cross-sectional in which 284 medical records of patients referred to the Diabetes Center of Hamedan were studied. The prevalence of retinopathy and relationship between microalbuminuria and retinopathy were analyzed respectively.
Results:
In our study, 284 patients were studied, of which %66.2 were female and 154 (%54.22) of the patients had retinopathy. From 154 patients who had retinopathy, %36.36 had mild NPDR, %27.92 moderate NPDR, %7.79 severe NPDR and %27.92 had PDR. %32.04 of patients had microalbuminuria that from which %80.21 had retinopathy. There was a significant relationship between retinopathy and microalbuminuria.
Conclusion:
The results of present study showed the prevalence of retinopathy is about 54%, which is higher than other studies, control of diabetes specially in patients with increasing duration of diabetes is necessary and due to the strong correlation between the presence of microalbuminuria and retinopathy, evaluation of microalbuminuria can be helpful in treatment and monitoring of diabetic retinopathy.
