Purpose:
to evaluate the efficacy of ophthalmic artery chemosurgery for the treatment of retinoblastoma.
Methods:
Retrospective review of 16 eyes of 16 retinoblastoma patients who received ophthalmic artery chemosurgery(mean follow-up, 21.1 months). Data on patient and ocular survival and complications of ophthalmic artery chemosurgery treatments were collected.
Results:
From 16 eyes ,one eye was in group C, 9 eyes group D and 6 eyes was group E of international classification. Mean number of treatment cession was 3.3. All children survived. Six eyes (6/16; 37.5%) were enucleated for progression of disease; No eye was enucleated for ocular complications of the procedure and the only adverse ophthalmic findings were transient lid edema and facial hyperemia in one patient.
Conclusion:
ophthalmic artery chemosurgery are effective for retinoblastoma and associated low hematologic and ocular toxicity.
