Purpose:
To report the preliminary results of 20 patients undergoing cataract surgery in Bina Eye Clinic, Tehran, Iran.
Methods:
In this prospective case series study twenty one patients with cataract undergoing IOL implementation using a femto-cataract system (VICTUS Femtosecond Laser Platform : Bausch + Lomb) were evaluated considering their visual outcomes, IOP, and complications one month postoperatively.
Results:
The mean age of patients was 66.7±10 years. Out of those 13 (61.9%) patients were female and 8 (47.6%) patients were male. The mean preoperative BCVA was 0.62 logMAR which improved to 0.15 one month postoperatively showing a statistically significant improvement (<0.001). The mean preoperative IOP was 12.00 which changed to 12.2 one month postoperatively showing a not statistically significant change. The mean duration of operation for these patients was 29.3±8 minutes. In terms of complications 16 patients developed fine subconjunctival hemorrhage and 2 patients had mild corneal edema which all subsided before the end of the first postoperative week.
Conclusion:
The femto-cataract surgery is a relatively new method particularly in Iran. Our preliminary results show an acceptable improvement of visual acuity and no serious complication. It also seems that this method takes less time to complete compared to phacoemulsification.
